As the second largest container terminal in the UK, DP World Southampton handles an increasing volume of cargo and requires continual investment in the container terminal. As a result, Sienna were awarded the D&B Contract for a reefer gantry extension. Reefer gantries provide a safe and efficient method of providing power for multiple stacked refrigerated containers simultaneously. The reefer gantries are steel frame structures that provide DPWS staff safe access to the reefer containers.
The Scope of works comprised the design and construction of a 62m long steel framed extension to the existing gantry and provide ground mounted wheel stops for straddle carriers servicing the gantry.
The project also involved the design and installation of the electrical distribution and PFC power factor correction equipment, sockets and lighting including trenching, ducting and connection to the adjacent electrical substation.
